Last week, I wrote about how I apparently have a type. I like structure. One of the businesses I mentioned was Auxera Co Inc., the company I co-founded with Dami Ogundipe, our Chief Strategy and Product Officer. I gave you about two sentences and moved on, which is probably not enough to explain a company that is building two very different things. So, what exactly is Auxera? There are two sides to AuxeraOn one side, we work with businesses. On the other, we build products for everyday life. They may not immediately look like they belong in the same company, but the thinking behind them is actually very similar. Good people still need good infrastructure. Our Life Infrastructure side is where products like Steadi and Lumi live. We are building tools that help people create more structure around family life, wealth, decisions and the things we are all somehow expected to keep track of. Then there is the other side of Auxera, our fractional C-suite business, which I fondly call the Executive Bench. This one is very close to my heart. The Executive BenchThere is a particular stage of business growth where the Executive Bench starts to make sense. The business is established and growing. There is real revenue, a team and something that clearly works. But the company is becoming more complex, and some of the ways that got it this far won't necessarily get it through the next stage. Maybe the founder is still the person everyone comes to for decisions. Maybe finance can tell you what happened last month but isn't helping you decide what happens next. Maybe operations have grown faster than the processes supporting them. Or perhaps the company is making bigger technology and product decisions without senior leadership in those areas. This is the kind of business we built the Executive Bench for. It may not need another full-time executive. It may just need experienced leadership to solve a particular problem, navigate a stage of growth or build the structure required for what comes next. Sometimes the need is even more specific. You may just need an app built, a new product launched or someone experienced to take an idea from concept to execution. Sometimes the whole thing depends on someone who knows everything, and that person needs help building a business that doesn't depend entirely on them. It comes from what Dami and I knowAuxera is a natural extension of the work both of us have spent our careers doing. My career has taken me across multiple industries and through operations, finance, business process and transformation. A lot of my work has involved understanding how things actually work, figuring out why they aren't working as well as they should and helping build something better. Dami brings another side to that experience. She is a product and technology transformation leader with over 15 years of experience spanning finance and technology consulting. She brings strategic clarity and delivery discipline to businesses building or evolving their digital and product capabilities. You put those two experiences together and it starts to make a lot of sense. We understand strategy, but we also know what it takes to turn it into action. Years spent working inside organizations have taught us that even the smartest, most hardworking people need the right structure to work well together. A finance problem can actually be an operations problem. An operations problem can be a people problem. A technology problem can really be a process problem. Everybody can be doing their individual jobs well while nobody is looking across the business and asking: Does this whole thing actually work together? That is where the bench becomes valuable. The goal isn't to come into a business, produce a beautiful strategy deck and leave everyone else to figure out how to make it happen. The executives on the bench are there to think, challenge, build and work alongside the existing team. You don't necessarily need the person forever. You may need them for this stage, and I really like that model. Two sides, same beliefSo yes, Auxera has two sides. Through Executive Bench, we give growing businesses access to experienced executive thinking and execution when they need it. Through Life Infrastructure, we build products that help people create better structure around how they live, manage and make decisions. They look different, but they come from the same belief. Sometimes people don't need to try harder. Sometimes they need better infrastructure around what they are already trying to do. That is Auxera Co Inc. And now you have officially met my beloved Executive Bench. With clarity, Roseline Was this forwarded to you? Subscribe here to get the next one. |
I have a confession. I don't really understand passion. People talk about passion as though everyone has one particular thing buried somewhere inside them and our job is to find it. Find your passion. Follow your passion. Build a career around your passion. Monetize your passion. Okay, but what exactly is it? I have things I enjoy, things I am good at, things I care about and things I can spend hours doing without noticing the time. Which one of those is passion? Is accounting my passion?...
One of the most heartbreaking things about filing taxes over the last two years was seeing just how many people bought their first homes without taking advantage of the FHSA. These were people who had done the hard part. They had saved, built up their down payment and bought their first home, but some never opened an FHSA. Some had tens of thousands of dollars sitting in regular savings accounts while they saved for their homes. They did the work but left thousands of dollars in potential tax...
The Work You Avoid There’s an email I haven’t sent for three weeks. I’ve noticed that the work I avoid often has the most leverage. It is not always the hardest work or the work that takes the most time. Sometimes it’s a very small thing: the email I need to send, the thing I need to launch, the conversation I need to have, or the decision I keep putting off even though, somewhere in the back of my mind, I already know the answer. Meanwhile, I can be extremely productive doing everything...
